On 24 September 1960, the world’s first nuclear powered aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise (CVA(N) 65) was launched at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. USS Robert E. Lee (SSBN-601), the first nuclear-powered submarine completed by Newport News Shipbuilding, to the left.
