On April 11, 1897, USS Oregon docks at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard at Bremerton. She is the first battleship to be docked there.

The vessel was an 11,688-ton Indiana class battleship, built in San Francisco, and commissioned in July 1896. She was ordered to steam around Latin American to participate in the Cuban part of the Spanish American War. She played an important role in the Battle of Santiago in July 1898.

The battleship guarded the Pacific Coast during World War I, and was decommissioned in 1919.
