On this day in 1837, Cdr Andrew Drew cut out and destroyed the pirate (US/Canadian rebels) steamer Caroline in the Niagara River sending her over the falls. The affair sparked a diplomatic spat between the UK & US which was resolved in 1842 when both admitted to wrong doing.
