Military Sealift Command rescue and salvage ship USNS Grasp (T-ARS 51) successfully delivered the decommissioned Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) to the Navy inactive ship yard in Bremerton September 18th. The journey, of the two ships began in San Diego Sept. 8. In the San Diego Bay, Grasp connected to Lake Champlain and began the tow journey that would conclude in Bremerton.

The USS San Juan, the first advanced version of the Los Angeles-class nuclear fast attack submarine built in 1988, arrived in Washington state this week concluding its final voyage. The 35-year-old submarine will be decommissioned and deactivated at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, near Seattle.

70 years ago in 1953 the first of 12 Type 14 Frigates was launched at Cowes. Named after famous Captains, DUNDAS was named after James Whitley Deans Dundas who was prominent in the Napoleonic and Crimean wars. DUNDAS was broken up 30 years later in 1983. Shown here leaving Portland.

 

On this day 10 years ago in 2013, the sixth, and final Type 45 Destroyer, HMS Duncan was commissioned at HMNB Portsmouth. A relative nozzer in British Warship terms, she is currently the last escort commissioned for the RN until HMS Glasgw or HMS Venturer enter the Fleet.
