On this day in 1966, HMS Ulster, which damaged her stern, received the 25-ton entire stern section of her sister HMS Urchin in the dock at HMNB Devonport. The engineering task which included machinery & steering gear took only 2 hours! HMS Ulster was ready to sail soon after.

On this day in 1961 the first Leander Class Frigate HMS LEANDER was launched at Harland and Wolff plc, Belfast. The class of 26 were a huge success and would serve the Royal Navy until the 1990s. The last British Leander was still in service with the Indian Navy until 2012.

Welcome home HMS Scott, the ocean survey vessel of the Royal Navy, and the only ship of her class. She was returning to her home port of Devonport for the first time in almost 8 months this morning.


 

HMS SPEY recently completed defect rectification with the assistance of our friends in Japan and the support of Japan Marine United in Yokosuka. The Ship has now been fully restored to its capabilities and is back out on the high seas undertaking vital training for the Ship’s Co.

On this day in 1982, The Argentine submarine ARA Santa Fe, aground off King Edward Point, South Georgia, is raised to clear the jetty. She still has 23 torpedoes aboard her. She is towed by tugs to a point about a mile from Grytviken to a shallow inlet called Moraine Fjord (Pic 3).






 

Royal Marines and Swedish Coastal Rangers operated together in the Stockholm Archipelago, honing raiding tactics across the complex region. This was all part of NATO's Baltops24 exercise, working for Baltic security.


 

Ukraine has now sunk or damaged around two dozen Russian ships of all sizes using one-way attack Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs). Recently USVs have also been successfully used to lay mines.


 

Sending a message is rare for SSBN to surface while on operations. USS Normandy and the ballistic missile submarine, USS Tennessee overflown by P-8A Poseidon and E-6B Mercury for PHOTEX in the Norwegian Sea on 23/6/24.

Ralph Johnson is forward deployed and assigned to Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, the Navy's largest DESRON and the U.S. 7th Fleet's principal surface force.


 

The Royal Navy has successfully used its smallest warships as a launchpad for autonomous mine-hunting operations for the first time. Seven P2000 patrol vessels of the Coastal Forces Squadron deployed on NATO’s annual Baltic exercise – known as Baltops 24 – during which 50 ships, dozens of aircraft and 9,000 personnel from 20 nations operated closely together for the security and safety of the region.

Royal Navy Mediterranean fleet was stationed in Gibraltar in 1931. Its facilities are not sufficient enough to accommodate all ships so some can be seen outside the harbour.
