Block IV Virginia-class submarine, future USS Iowa (SSN 797), being floated for the first time at Electric Boat's Graving Dock 3. (August 11, 2023) She's expected to be commissioned in the Spring of 2025.

05 March 1999: at sea - USS Enterprise (CVN 65) (right) and USS Detroit (AOE 4) (center) conduct a replenishment-at-sea, as Nicholas (top left) begins her approach. Enterprise Battle Group is operating in the central Mediterranean Sea.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
