40 years ago today, the keel was laid for The Louisville Slugger, USS Louisville (SSN 724). The Flight II Los Angeles-class boat fired the first-ever submarine launched Tomahawks in combat during the opening of Desert Storm.

Oiler USNS Big Horn damaged by grounding aft being towed into Duqm, Oman for repairs yesterday.No oil leak or injuries to crew.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
