On March 27, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin officially launched the Perm, a fourth-generation nuclear-powered attack submarine belonging to the Yasen-M class. Named after the city of Perm in the Urals, it is the sixth vessel in the Yasen/Yasen-M series and the first Russian nuclear submarine to be officially equipped with the 3M22 Zircon hypersonic cruise missile as a standard feature. The submarine was laid down on July 29, 2016, at the Sevmash shipyard in Severodvinsk. Its launch marks a significant stage in the Russian Navy’s ongoing shipbuilding program. The Perm is scheduled to enter service with the Russian Navy in 2026.

The UK’s three new Fleet Solid Support (FSS) ships are expected to enter service by 2032, according to a government response to a parliamentary question from James Cartlidge MP. Maria Eagle, Minister of State for Defence, provided an update on several major Royal Navy shipbuilding programmes, stating that “each of the Ships Programmes are progressing” and confirming expected timelines: Type 26 frigates are set to enter service between 2028 and 2035. Five Type 31 frigates are planned to be operational by the early 2030s. Three Fleet Solid Support ships will be delivered by 2032.

The crew of the British Colossus-class light aircraft carrier HMS Ocean (R68) on deck for an inspection by Field Marshal Earl Alexander, the British Defense Minister, on 14 June 1952. Ocean was at the time off the Korean coast– a peninsula where she was highly active some 70 years ago– and she has Hawker Sea Furys of 802 Squadron and Fairey Fireflys of 825 Squadron aboard. It looks like the light cruiser HMS Belfast (C35) is off her stern.

The Royal Navy light cruiser HMS Belfast (C35) approaching the aircraft carrier HMS Ocean (R68) off Korea, before the transfer of RADM Alan Kenneth Scott-Moncrieff, Flag Officer, Second in Command, Far East Station from his flagship Belfast to Ocean to observe air operations against targets in north-west Korea. Served on Belfast 61/62.
The RN has changed the name of the future amphibious warfare vessel from the "Multi-Role Support Ship" to "Multi-Role Strike Ship" (MRSS). This is a sensible change reflecting the primarily offensive mission of these vessels. The programme is currently in the concept phase and needs to be funded in the coming SDR.
