HMS Waterwitch, circa mid 1870,s. One of a unique group of 3 kind of experimental gunboats built for the RN. HMS Waterwitch was one of only three armoured gunboats built for the Royal Navy. Uniquely she was powered by Ruthven's "hydraulic propeller", making her the first ship to employ waterjets for propulsion.She was launched in 1866 and conducted comparative trials with her two sister ships. She was not employed operationally and was sold in 1890.


 

This Russian owned yacht named "Ragnar", was ransacked by the Norwegian Coast Guard, Police and Customs earlier today. It's owned by former KGB officier Vladimir Strzhalkovsky ; who is an old friend of Vladimir Putin. It looks like a boat used for cutting fiber cables. Fiber cables have been cut between the Norwegian mainland and the Norwegian territory of Svalbard which is way up North. It is believed that this vessel has been involved.



 

On this day in1991, Type 42 Destroyer HMS Gloucester destroyed an Iraqi Silkworm missile bound for USS Missouri with her Sea Dart missile system during Op. Granby. The first Gulf War.

USS West Virginia (BB-48) in 1959, at the end of the line, heading to the breakers. Third, and most severely damaged, sunken battleship to be salvaged and returned to service was USS West Virginia. Much of her port side had been ripped open by as many as eight Japanese torpedoes, and her rudder had been blown off by another.

The Ula class is a Norwegian submarine type which was assembled in Germany in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The class, consisting of six vessels, is currently the only submarine type in service with the Royal Norwegian Navy. And the completion of multi national submarine exercise in the North Sea and Norwegian Fjords.
