HMS Valiant in Trincomalee 1944, one of 5 Queen Elizabeth Battleships. Scrapped in 1948 after 2 world wars and 32 years service.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
