Naval Station Pearl Harbour. Light cruiser USS Birmingham (CL-62) undergoes damage evaluation after the Battle of Empress Augusta Bay. Her stern is destroyed by a bomb from a near-crashed Aichi D3A dive bomber. 1943.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
