December 1917, Scapa Flow. Greeted by the crewmen of HMS Queen Elizabeth, USS New York (BB-34) (in the center) leads US Navy Battleship Division Nine to join the Grand Fleet until the end of the Great War.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
