OnThisDay 2015 the last of the Type 42 Destroyers to serve, HMS EDINBURGH, left HMNB Portsmouth, under tow for the scrap yard in Turkey. In all 16 Type 42's were built (14 RN and 2 for Argentina).

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
