Destination Normandy. HMS Cattistock, HMS Dasher and HMS Trumpeter, plus wartime motorboats and tugs escorted veterans on the Brittany Ferries 'Mont St Michel' out of Portsmouth today for D Day 80 events. Yesterday veterans reminisced with men of 47 Cdo RM.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
