OnThis Day in 1901 Royal Navy submarine service is founded when its first submarine HM Submarine Torpedo Boat No. 1 was launched. She became known as Holland 1 after her Irish designer JP Holland. Lost in 1913 she was recovered in 1982, restored and now on display at the RN Submarine Museum .
