By order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, the first Soviet nuclear submarine K-3 "Leninsky Komsomol" was towed from the "Severnaya Verf" in St. Petersburg to Kronstadt.
The event involved 3 tugs and 2 boats.
Hydrometeorological conditions along the towing route were normal. The personnel of the Leningrad naval base and support vessels, who took part, coped with the task successfully.
The nuclear submarine K-3 Leninsky Komsomol arrived at its destination - the city of Kronstadt. An inter-fleet towing operation was carried out, in fact, from the Northern Fleet to the Baltic Fleet. The next stage will be a large amount of work to transform the K-3 into a unique museum, "said the Commander-in Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.
In 1991, the boat was withdrawn from the Northern Fleet. In 2005, K-3 was delivered to the water area of the Nerpa shipyard (a branch of the Zvezdochka Shipyard). In 2010, the commander-in-chief of the Navy decided not to dispose of the K-3, but to preserve it for history.
