On this day in 1939, the Captain of the German battleship, Admiral Graf Spee, scuttled in Montevideo the previous week, Captain Hans Langsdorff committed suicide in Buenos Aries. Driven to Montevideo by the RoyalNavy at Battle of River Plate. He could either run, fight or scuttle. Scuttling saved his and our men.
