On This Day in 2016, the last Invincible Class Aircraft Carrier HMS ILLUSTRIOUS, left HMNB Portsmouth under tow for the last time. on her way to the scrap yard in Turkey. HMS ILLUSTRIOUS was commissioned at sea in 1982 in order to prepare her for South Atlantic service.
