On this day in1942 the Destroyer HMS PORCUPINE was torpedoed en route from Gibraltar to Algiers. 7 of the crew were killed and the ship, though a total loss was recovered and cut in 2. Both parts were towed back to HMNB Portsmouth and used as accommodation called HMS PORK & HMS PINE.
