WWI cruiser HMAS BRISBANE paying off at Portsmouth, U.K.

The first cruiser built in Australia [although her machinery and armaments were shipped from Britain], HMAS BRISBANE [I] was commissioned at Cockatoo Island Dockyard on Oct. 30, 1916.

She is seen here paying off in Portsmouth, and about to transfer her crew to the Modifiied Leander Class cruiser HMAS SYDNEY [II].

She was broken up by Thomas Ward Ltd in the U.K. the following year.
