SS Prinz Eitel Friedrich. Launched 1904. Sent to the Far East & converted at Tsingtao, she spent 7 months in the South Atlantic & Pacific, sinking 11 merchant ships. With worn out engines she sailed into Newport News for internment, March 1915. SS Prinz Eitel Friedrich (German passenger liner, 1904), interned at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, Pennsylvania, on 28 March 1917. Behind her is the liner SS Kronprinz Wilhelm. These ships were seized when the United States entered World War I and subsequently served as USS DeKalb (ID # 3010) and Von Steuben (ID # 3017).
