700X Naval Air Squadron has trained 11 of HMS Protector crew to operate Remotely Piloted Air Systems (RPAS) / photo-drones in Antarctica. Sky Mantis used for surveys and ice reconnaissance. Partially mitigating lack of embarked helicopter.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
