HMS Defender, sporting her ‘blue nose’ as the first Type 45 destroyer to operate in the Arctic Circle. Alongside HMS Diamond in Portsmouth after they both returned from deployment this week.

Today in 1999, HMS Bangor was commissioned. She was the last RN Ship to be accepted in the 20th Century. Of the 12 RN Sandown Class Minehunters built only BANGOR remains in service as mine-hunting moves towards autonomous vessels from mother ships.
