On this day in 1980 the RoyalNavy accepted its first hydrofoil from Boeing, which was intended to be the first of a class of patrol vessels capable of up to 40 knots. HMS SPEEDY would however be the only one ordered, and was herself sold in 1982. She is now a ferry in Hong Kong.
