USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19) arrives at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka on July 17, 1979. Upon arrival, Blue Ridge went into dry dock #6 to complete some upkeep maintenance prior to assuming the role of flagship of the U.S. 7th Fleet on October 5th.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
