Built in 1887 and named 'Drudge'. She was classed as a Gunboat but was really a trials vessel to carry various large calibre guns for Sea Trials. She was later sold to the RN as a Gunboat in 1901 and used for the same purpose that she was built on the Tyne (she was variously named Excellent and Dryad in her 18 years of RN time). She was sold out of service in 1919 whereupon she assumed her original name (Drudge). She had a long life and survived in use until she was scrapped in 1969.
