On this day in 1971, the last of the Royal Navy 26 Leander Class Frigates, HMS Ariadne, is launched at Yarrow. She would be the last surface steam powered warship built for RN & last to fire the Anti Submarine Limbo Mortars and the last RN Broadside In 1992 (multi-barrel single turret).
