Today is NIOBE Day, marking the arrival of HMCS Niobe (ex protected cruiser HMS Niobe), from Portsmouth, UK, to Halifax, on Oct 21, 1910. It was the 1st Canadian warship to enter Canadian waters and a landmark event in the beginnings of the Naval Service of Canada that became the Royal Canadian Navy in 1911.
