Sailors from HMS Protector delivered supplies and cleared several tonnes of snow from buried buildings at Port Lockroy - an isolated scientific base on the Antarctic Peninsula.

Today in 1999, HMS Bangor was commissioned. She was the last RN Ship to be accepted in the 20th Century. Of the 12 RN Sandown Class Minehunters built only BANGOR remains in service as mine-hunting moves towards autonomous vessels from mother ships.
