While the USS Alabama (BB-60) was under construction, two men died in the Norfolk shipyard. After launching in 1942, the ship served for 37 months without any fatalities due to enemy fire. However, death under friendly fire claimed the lives of eight men. Unfortunately, their bodies were left unrecognizable.
