HMS Portland launches a (Training Variant) Sting Ray anti-submarine Torpedo during drills off Northern Scotland. As it stands the Type 26 frigates will not have this capability, lacking a Magazine Torpedo Launch System.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
