For those questioning the retirement of HMS Montrose and HMS Monmouth. Apparantly both would need very expensive Life extension refits. Counter-intuitive but actually most efficient way to manage limited budget/refit capacity...

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
