On this day in 1994, the first women to serve on a U.S. combatant ship received their assignments from the Navy, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69). According to Admiral Ronald J. Zlatoper, this change was, in his words, “the logical progression after 50 years of service by Navy women.”
