On this day in1956 Lionel ‘Buster’ Crabb OBE GM RNVR disappeared HMNB Portsmouth during a visit by the Soviet leader Khrushchev in the Sverdlov class cruiser Ordzhonikidze. British PM Sir Anthony Eden told MPs that it was not in the public interest to discuss the circumstances. Lieutenant-Commander Lionel Kenneth Phillip Crabb, OBE, GM, known as Buster Crabb, was a Royal Navy frogman and diver who vanished during a reconnaissance mission for MI6 around a Soviet cruiser berthed at Portsmouth Dockyard in 1956.
