The futility of war! On this day in 1916, 151 ships of the Royal Navy Grand Fleet, and 99 ships of the German High Seas Fleet met at Battle of Jutland. Britain claim strategic victory under Admiral Jellicoe and Admiral Beatty, with Germany a numeric victory under Admiral Scheer Admiral Von Hipper. 8645 sailors were lost from both sides.

Chinese military planners have allegedly run a war game of a hypersonic missile attack on a United States Carrier Strike Group in the South China Sea, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reports. After running the simulation tens of times, they found that a barrage of 24 hypersonic missiles would be enough to obliterate the fleet in short order.

The Royal Navy's HMS Iron Duke has returned to sea for the first time since a major refit that began in 2019. The Type 23 frigate is one of the Navy's most versatile warships and has been undergoing life extension work at Devonport naval base. She last sailed under her own power in 2017, but has since begun sea trials to test all of the changes and improvements.
US Navy owned research vessel Petral damaged by toppling over in dry dock now on the tidal berth in Leith, Scotland. Significant damage to the starboard bow will need temporary repair before Tug Atlantic Salvor, that has served US Navy previously which has arrived,but unknown if Petrel will be towed back to the US for repair, or scrapping.

USS Potomac (AG-25), formerly USCGC Electra, was Franklin D. Roosevelt's presidential yacht from 1936 until his death in 1945. On August 3, 1941, she played a decoy role while Roosevelt held a secret conference to develop the Atlantic Charter. USS Potomac and USS Sequoia are the last two existing U.S. presidential yachts, after USS Williamsburg was scrapped in January 2016.[3] Potomac is now preserved in Oakland, California, as a National Historic Landmark and the only presidential yacht open to the public.
HMS Dauntless has set sail for the Caribbean to assist British Overseas Territories throughout the hurricane season and participate in anti-drug trafficking operations. Departing from Portsmouth with cutting-edge engines – the first of her kind to undergo the Power Improvement Programme – the Type 45 destroyer has set course for the Caribbean.

USS Pennsylvania (SSBN 735) entered Dry Dock 4 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility May 11, to begin an 18-month Extended Refit Period. This will be the first maintenance availability in Dry Dock 4 since interim seismic mitigation efforts were completed in recent weeks and the dry dock was tested and re-certified.
