USS Cooperstown (LCS 23) Commissioned today in New York City. May 6, 2023. Cooperstown is one of at least 6 Freedom-class LCS the USN plans to keep. The Navy plans to keep at least 6 of the Freedom class LCS, including LCS 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, and 31. None of these are scheduled for early decommissioning. These all have or will have the combining gear fix at commissioning and their propulsion plants should be fully operational from the get-go. As per the 30 year “shipbuilding” plan, the Navy plans to put LCS 13, 15, 17, and 19 up for Foreign Military Sale next fiscal year, while they plan to offer two Independence class (LCS 6 and 8) for FMS this FY, if Congress approves. LCS 3 is to be scrapped in FY 26 per the plan. Currently these are all the decommissionngs that are planned for both LCS sub-classes.
