On this day in1939, the submarine, HMS Thetis is lost in Liverpool Bay during trials with the loss of 99 men, there were only 4 survivors. HMS Thetis was salvaged and repaired to be commissioned as HMS Thunderbolt which would be lost in March 1943 off Sicily with all hands.
