On this day in 1867, Fanny Adams was murdered and dismembered in Hampshire. A national story that gave rise to the naval slang, sweet Fanny Adams as the Royal Navy introduced tinned mutton, just after her death (Now Sweet FA). The meat was in a can which sailors kept and called a Fanny. The term RN sailors still use today.
