On this day in 1975, the Carrier HMS Eagle is towed from HMNB Portsmouth to HMNB Devonport, where she lay for 6 years being slowly cannibalised for spare parts to keep her sister, HMS Ark Royal running. She was later towed to Cairnryan in Scotland to be scrapped.
