The oldest submarine still in service among the world's navies is the ROCS Hai Shih (SS-791). The sub was launched as USS Cutlass in 1944 and sold to Taiwan in 1973. The Hai Shih will remain in service until 2026 when it will be over 80 years old.

Naval vessels from various countries, docked at Portsmouth Naval Base. Taking part in the International Fleet Review which was part of the Trafalgar 200 celebrations. 2005.
On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
