The US Navy has 15 fleet replenishment oilers located around the world that can carry 180,000 barrels of aviation and diesel fuel as well as fresh and frozen food, dry goods, drinking water, and even mail.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
