Water floods dry dock No. 6, holding the amphibious command ship USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19). A scheduled routine maintenance period had recently been completed at Repair Facility, Yokosuka. 1992.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
