A MARTAC T-38 Devil Ray unmanned surface vehicle, equipped with a Lethal Miniature Aerial Missile System, operates in the Arabian Gulf. The US Navy is developing the next generation of vessels to patrol the waves and protect freedom of the seas.

The U.S. Navy has confirmed that a wreck discovered last year by the Royal Australian Navy is that of USS Edsall (DD 219). Lost in the Indian Ocean in 1942, the exact fate of the Edsall was unknown until a decade later when captured Japanese film revealed that the destroyer had been sunk after coming under attack by two cruisers, two battleships, and 26 dive bombers from three carriers. A post-war investigation determined that at least six of Edsall's crewmen were captured and executed.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
