On this day in 1941, the Aircraft Carrier HMS Ark Royal is torpedoed by U-Boat and lost the next day, after a confused damage control effort and abandon ship. Only 1 of the crew of over 1,400 was lost with the remainder transported to the Royal Navy base in Gibraltar.
