On this day in 1962, 4 Marine Engineering Ratings and an Engineer Officer were killed during a steam leak in the boiler room of Carrier, HMS Centaur whilst she was operating in the Irish Sea. Remember.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
