On this day in 2007, Amphibious assault ship USS Tarawa (LHA 1) with Marines of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit embarked, sails on her 14th and final deployment from San Diego, CA. Tarawa was decommissioned after 32 years of service in March 2009.
