On this day Adm. Chester W. Nimitz relieves Adm. Husband E. Kimmel in a change of command ceremony as commander in Chief Pacific Fleet (CINPAC), 31 December 1941, 24 days after the Pearl Harbour attack. The change took place on board USS Grayling (SS-209) at Pearl Harbour.
