The Queen Elizabeth class battleship HMS Warspite had been bombed off Crete in May 1941 and the politically sensitive decision was taken to repair the ship at Bremerton, arriving there in August. She was at the end of her stay when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7.
