UK, Norwegian and French Maritime Patrol aircraft have been closely monitoring waters off Sligo and Donegal (west of Ireland) for the past week. Suspected Russian submarine activity close to Corrib gas pipeline and subsea cables.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
