The Merlin is from 829 Naval Air Squadron based at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose. 01 Flight embarked in HMS St Albans. This was the first Winch Transfer to an Astute Class Submarine, HMS Ambush.

On completion of Operational Sea Training with the RN FOST (Flag Officer Sea Traing), FGS Magdeburg arrived in London, alongside HMS Belfast.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
